ABOUT
US
SoilFreeze is a ground freezing construction company
specializing in artificial soil freezing for both civil and environmental
applications. We offer a full range of services for the design, installation
and monitoring of ground freezing to economically solve most types of
soil and groundwater problems. SoilFreeze has completed
a number of major projects to-date and is
in negotiations to start many others.
Our Ground Freezing
Technologies
-
SoilFreezeWe have
developed innovative refinements in ground freezing equipment that
make ground freezing cost-competitive compared to conventional shoring
methods. Moreover, it has an advantage in that dewatering is often
eliminated. Ground freezing can be used for shoring, groundwater cutoff,
access shafts for boring machines, underpinning, soil/slope stabilization,
recovery of buried equipment, to name just a few.
-
CRYOCELL® is a patented
ground freezing technology to fully contain contamination. It was
successfully tested in full scale programs sponsored by the Department
of Energy (DOE) at its Oak Ridge, Tennessee facility. As a result,
CRYOCELL is now on the DOE's list of top five new technologies for
use in containing high level radiation as well as most other types
of contaminants.
-
ISOCELL is another of
our patented ground freezing technologies. It involves freezing ground
containing contamination, mixed waste or unexploded ordnance and selectively
removing blocks of the frozen material for disposal or treatment out
of the ground. A pilot test sponsored by the DOE was successfully
completed in 1992.
SoilFreeze
Management
- Larry Applegate, President, joined the company as
President in April 2002. He holds a degree in Construction Management
from Washington State University and worked with Mid-Mountain Contractors,
Inc. as Operations Manager. He then established Cascadia Civil, a general
contractor specializing in public construction contracts. He is responsible
for the design and implementation of bids, subcontracts and consulting
agreements and for the overall direction of the company.
- James Quitslund, V.P. of Administration & Marketing,
has had 25 years of experience managing program development, public
relations and marketing in business and research. He is responsible
for maintaining the company's relationships with engineering firms,
contractors, clients and subcontractors throughout the process of project
development, implementation and evaluation. As the chief spokesman on
intellectual-property matters, he serves as liaison with the Office
of Technology Licensing and the Office of the Attorney General at the
University of Washington.
- Ron Krieg, Founder/Senior Design Consultant, has
more than 25 years of contractor experience on complex projects worldwide
ranging from power generation facilities in remote areas of Alaska to
troubleshooting for Bechtel Corporation on large industrial facilities.
He used ground freezing to solve many of the difficult soil/groundwater
problems on these projects. He spearheaded the development of newer
techniques for ground freezing that resulted in cost savings to our
clients.
- Sean Rierson, Field Operations Manager, is one of the most experienced soil-freezing specialists in North America. He first entered the field in 1994 as the administrator of RKK, Ltd. Since the creation of SoilFreeze, he has dealt closely with every technical aspect of material fabrication, manifold design and system testing, operating and troubleshooting. He is also known as an effective manager of subordinates and of the interface between the various disciplines and companies on which successful underground construction projects depend.
SoilFreeze can also call on the experienced staff of
GeoEngineers, Inc. for engineering
and environmental consultation.
Founded in 1980, GeoEngineers has over 150 staff in 7 offices in the Pacific
Northwest. It has provided geotechnical and environmental design services
on thousands of projects in many areas of the U.S. Such projects include:
foundations, shoring, seismic evaluations, landslide stabilization, earthwork,
site assessments and site remediation. |
